Digital platforms are making women economically self-sufficient: Palak
State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak said, Sheikh Hasina announced the implementation of technology-based Digital Bangladesh in 2008. This platform has helped women to find employment and become entrepreneurs. Through the digital platform, the Prime Minister has created opportunities for women to become economically self-sufficient. Eight and a half thousand Union Digital Centers are being set up across the country to provide corruption-free citizen services to 10 million people at a low cost. A woman entrepreneur is working in these digital centers. Besides, three lakh women entrepreneurs are working in e-commerce sector.
He was speaking at the triennial conference of the Natore district branch of the Jubo Mohila League (Youth Women's League) at Anima Chowdhury Auditorium in his parliamentary constituency of Natore on Sunday.
Speaking as the special guest, State Minister Palak further said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has made arrangements for direct election of women representatives in every Union Parishad, Upazila Parishad and District Parishad. She has increased the number of reserved women MPs in the National Assembly to 50. To ensure the respect, dignity and security of women, the Prime Minister has made arrangements to add father's name as well as mother's name in all certificates. The meeting presided over by Anjuman Ara Poppy, President of Natore District Jubo Mohila League.
He also said that under the direction of the Prime Minister, steps have been taken to create 25,000 women entrepreneurs at a cost of Tk. 250 crore in the name of 'Her power' project. Through this project, women entrepreneurs will become freelancers, e-commerce entrepreneurs, call-center agents and maintenance engineers using their energy, talent and technology.
The conference was inaugurated by Prof. Apu Ukil, General Secretary of Juba Mahila League. The chief guest was District Awami League President Professor Abdul Quddus. The main speaker was the general secretary of the district Awami League Md. Shariful Islam Ramjan.
Md. Shafiqul Islam Shimul, MP, Natore-2; Md. Shahidul Islam Bakul, MP, Natore-1; Ratna Ahmed, MP of the reserved women's seat and Uma Chowdhury Jolly, mayor of Natore municipality delivered their speeches as special guests at the conference.
